Several decades of civil conflict in Liberia have left teachers with languishing reading and math skills and little opportunity for improvement. To update their skills and help create a more effective teacher corps, more than 1,000 teachers and facilitators in six counties will receive three days of refresher in-service training. Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC), will deliver the workshop as part of the Core Education Skills for Liberian Youth (CESLY) program, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
“We don’t want kids to be quiet as they listen to stories,” says EDC’s Cindy Hoisington as she describes how to build literacy among young readers.
EdTech Leaders Online (ETLO), an instructional professional development project of Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC), has won an award for innovative online learning practice. The award was presented by the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL) at its annual meeting in Glendale, Arizona.
EDC’s Barbara Treacy is quoted regarding certification requirements.
EDC has received more than $5.6 million from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to conduct research and develop programs to boost the learning and teaching of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
Ismail and Siti Fatimah are teachers in Indonesia. They work hard to be good teachers—but they also want to be better ones.
To that end, Ismail attends a weeklong workshop for technology training in the capital of his province. He goes there to learn about computers so he can teach his colleagues.
EDC’s online capacity-building program provides graduate-level training for educators to facilitate and design online courses.
Monitoring teachers’ performance over time gives school leaders valuable information that helps them to shape professional development opportunities.
In Malawi, 20,000 primary school teachers gathered for Tikwere Day, an annual training to support educators using EDC’s interactive radio instruction program.
